New Research Could Change the Way Fillings Are Created

Just as medical research advances each year, dentistry makes great strides as well, and often includes some natural components that can complement the traditional treatments we provide. We offer tooth-colored, white fillings in our Encinitas dental office for excellent results with a minimal impact on your smile.

Now, new research from the University of Illinois at Chicago has uncovered a natural treatment to make those fillings last longer than ever before using pine tree bark.

How Pine Tree Bark Strengthens Fillings

The resin found in pine tree bark chemically alters the structure of the tooth, making it bind better to composite material, which we use for our fillings. On average, you can count on white fillings to last about 5-7 years when they will need replacing. Most insurance companies recognize the need to replace dentistry every so often, and you will receive some benefit if you have an insurance plan.

Adding more years to the life of your filling will reduce expenses and the time you spend in the dental chair.

Waiting for Commercially Available Products

Until a commercial form of pine tree bark becomes available for dental fillings in Encinitas, Dr. Jordan will continue to provide the high-quality and long-lasting fillings our patients have grown to expect.

Composite, which is made up of plastic and glass powders, is similar in strength to natural teeth enamel and will seal the tooth, protecting it from decay-causing bacteria. Dr. Jordan can also use composite material to reshape teeth in a process called dental bonding to cosmetically enhance the appearance of the teeth.

If you suspect you need a filling and live near Encinitas, don’t wait to contact Scott M. Jordan DDS. Decay will not heal on its own and can put your oral health (and smile) at risk.

We are here to help find a solution that lets you keep your natural teeth for a lifetime.

Awesome experience

Awesome experience for my very nervous husband! Dr Kay and all of his staff were kind, and so understanding of my husband’s dental fears. He was very gentle and had a great bedside manner. Highly recommend Dr Kay!
